Indecision

I was packing for my trip to Roanoke this evening and trying to decide what to take to read during those few minutes (mostly before bed) that I’ll have a chance to read. I had so many choices that I couldn’t make a decision! Magazines or books; if magazines, ones I can read & abandon or keepers; if books, fiction or non-fiction; if non-fiction, what type?

Then there’s the what to pack to wear on what day (knowing that whatever I pack I’ll probably wish I’d packed something else), and what to bring to keep my hands occupied.

At least there’s no indecision on our travel route — going up is via Asheville to visit Mountain Glass Arts, coming back is at least part way along the Blue Ridge Parkway. If I don’t care for traveling, especially work-related traveling, at least I can have some fun on the way up and back.

I just hope that deciding what we want for breakfast, lunch, and dinner tomorrow isn’t such an endeavor!

I got this from Kandice Seeber, who got it from the BeadedLily’s Sketchbook blog — sounds like a fun meme!

THE RULES:

Respond and rework. Answer the questions on your own blog; replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention; add one more question of your own.

THE QUESTIONS:

What is your current obsession?
Once I finish up my grades, I’ll get back to working on borosilicate glass leaf pendants, trying to work out some nice shapes & colors.

Which item from your closet are you wearing most lately?
Jeans, jeans, and more jeans, with the occasional cargo pants thrown in there.

What was the last thing you bought?
A couple of magazines this afternoon during our regular Saturday trip to Borders.

What are you listening to right now?
Nothing except the ambient noise around here. Sometimes silence is the best!

What are you reading?
Anna Quindlen’s Rise and Shine

What 4 words would you use to describe yourself?
Introverted, creative, sardonic, strong-willed

What is your current guilty pleasure?
I don’t really have guilty pleasures, but maybe it’s reading “chick-lit” and romance novels.

What would you do if the internet was irreparably damaged and you had to find another way to connect?
I would like to think I’d write letters, but I’d probably just stay unconnected. I’m not a phone person so that’s out.

Where would you go if you could travel anywhere right now?
Probably New Zealand, since that’s the place I most want to visit.

If you could grant someone else one wish, what would it be?
I’d give my father a cure for his heart disease and pulmonary fibrosis.

What flower are you most anxious to see bloom this spring?
Actually, I’ll be just as happy when everything quits blooming since the pollen has made me utterly miserable this spring.

What are you most happy doing?
Hanging out with my husband, or melting glass, or both together.

Care to share some wisdom?
Two things:

  1. Life’s not fair, so get over it.
  2. If you’re in a hole, stop digging.

If I walked into your work space today what would you want to show me? What would you want to hide?
I’d want to turn on my torch and show you how I make my beads and pendants. I wouldn’t really want to hide anything in the workspace, but I might close some of the other doors in the house!

What makes you laugh out loud?
The ICanHasCheezburger and IHasAHotDog websites. They also make me go “Awwwww!”

How many pets do you have, and what kind?
Three cats, plus the 80 or so I work with as a <a href=“http://goodmews.org>Good Mews volunteer.

Link back to me if you do this meme yourself!

DH and I don’t make a big huge deal out of Stuff as possible for Christmas, since we pretty much have everything we want/need anyway, and if we don’t we get it for ourselves if we really want it. My family has gotten so darn big (parents, five kids plus spouses, eleven grandkids) that the siblings decided no presents for each other or for nieces/nephews. I do still bake a pound cake loaf for every family, though!

Still, there’s a few Christmas presents hanging around.

DH wanted nunchucks, now that he’s a black belt. So I got him nunchucks, plus a couple of small tool kits (ratcheting screwdriver/bits and socket driver/sockets) and some new t-shirts. He surprised me with the pair of boots I had been drooling over for a year in the National Geographic catalog but wouldn’t buy for myself because they cost way too much (mine are black, though):

My son got me a copy of Masters: Glass Beads, full of eye candy to drool over. He’d “wrapped” our presents each in a bag from Patagonia, which will be just as valued? as the presents themselves (DH promptly stored his nunchucks in his). Then my parents gave me a clamp-on magnifying lamp, which I hadn’t realized I wanted/NEEDED until the Cynthia Rutledge class a couple of weeks ago, when it was clear that my eyes aren’t able to see seed beads as well as I’d like! So I’m quite happy.

I had an email from PayPal this morning that I had received a payment.? Being inadequately caffeinated, I thought at first it was yet another scam.? But when I checked, I discovered that one of my handbound books had sold off of Etsy!

Then I went over to Mincot’s this afternoon to have lunch, return her pieces from the show, and? beat her computer into submission. I had my new boro pendants out on the table at the pho place for her to check out, so of course everyone else was curious.? That led to one of them selling to one of the staff there!

It just goes to show that you never know when you’ll end up with a sale!? Now I just need to get some more stuff out there, visible and available…

I ran across this entry, with this quote, today as I was reading through the Ninth Wave Designs blog.

“The buying of more books than one can read is nothing less than the soul reaching towards infinity, and this passion is the only thing that raises us above the beast that perish.” — Alfred Edward Newton

Obviously there is another bibliophile out there who could be our twin. I also think Sarah, at least, would agree with their cat on the subject of reading and books. As for Donovan, well, maybe he’s inclined to agree with Pearl the dog, but I’m not sure he could put it quite so eruditely. I’m also gleaning some good ideas from reading through the site — let’s see what happens with them.
