I had good intentions for this five-day weekend, I truly did. Like so many of my good intentions, they didn’t get completely fulfilled. I was going to:

  • catch up on the massive grading backlog. Well, I at least sorted out the papers and graded a little bit. A very little bit.
  • get a bunch of items listed at ArtFire and 1000 Markets for holiday shopping. I did get some photos taken and cropped/resized, so I can at least get some bracelets up this week, I hope.
  • do some more cold-connected jewelry pieces. Nada. I did do another chainmaille bracelet, but that’s it.
  • try out the Prismacolor pencils-on-copper technique. Nope, though I did at least get a bottle of gray gesso & some Krylon spray Saturday, plus found a couple of sheets of phosphor bronze mixed in among the copper at Dick Blick.
  • tidy up my studio. Let’s not even go there.
  • catch up on some reading. I barely managed to read the newspaper a couple of those days.
  • Sleep. Now, that’s the one true success this weekend. Most nights I did get plenty of sleep, which I badly needed.

On the plus side, I did a good deed by filling in for the Thursday evening meds person at Good Mews (and getting thoroughly carved up by Silver and Mickel in the process). I spent time with my entire family on Thanksgiving day (getting rather overwhelmed in the process), and some time today with part of it when we went over to wish my mom a Happy Birthday.

Since we’re still not caught up with the backlog of blog posts, here’s another installment of the catchup series. Today, we’re featuring some “eye candy” posts!

Okay. I admit it. The blogosphere hasn’t been THAT quiet; I just keep neglecting to post the “Best of.” But thanks to Tinroof saying how much she’s missed it, let’s see if we can’t get caught up a bit! Given how many are built up in the backlog, I’m going to break it down into a couple of postings. This first one will cover web tools and other useful things for the glass business person.

So here goes:

  • For all the Etsy shop owners frustrated by the lack of browser tools provided by Etsy itself, Etsy Bitch introduces Etsy Hacks and more Etsy Hacks, courtesy of the husband of an Etsy shop owner. These work with the Firefox web browser only, and are Greasemonkey scripts.
  • Trying to figure out how to make the best use of Twitter? Humblebeads has some Twitter Tips for Artists & Designers. While you’re at it, make sure you’re following @artofthfirebird, @4TailsLampwork, @flamekeeper, @Kandice_Seeber, and @JudithJohnston, the GlassHaven Tweeters. Oh, and if you’re a TGH member who Tweets, make sure you add your Twitter ID so we can follow YOU.
  • Melissa Lee talks about the ethical issues in reusing old beads.
  • Henry Grimmet of Glass Alchemy simply says DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!”
  • At Watch Me Create, Linda Morrison ponders the idea of series creation.
  • Etsy recently added social bookmarking options to their website. Now you can bookmark and share your favorite items on most of the big social networking sites.

Signing up for the latest swap on one of my Yahoo! groups was a mistake, I figured, but I went ahead and did it anyway.? I was right.? It was a round-robin, on a strict deadline, and I do not do terribly well with strict deadlines at the best of times. Right now, with my Muse on hiatus, a creative round-robin was doomed to not go well and it didn’t. No creativity, no motivation, procrastination on the mailings (I really do loathe going to the post office), and no real explanation for any of it — just mental and psychological inability to do anything, or to even talk about it to anyone. So I was dropped from the swap, got my book mailed back to me, and finally got the book I still had into the mail (without any contribution from me, sadly).

Naturally I feel like a total shit, to the point where I have avoided emails and group digests because they just worsened the spiral. I really need to not participate in swaps and round-robins until I can get my procrastination and avoidance behaviors straightened out.? Next time I’ll? listen to the little voice in my head that says, “yes, it sounds cool, but remember, you usually manage to screw these things up despite your best intentions,” and stay out so I don’t piss people off. Just another lesson I’m kind of slow learning, eh?
